From Mike Pengra, on Radio Heartland:
"If you've seen her perform live, you already know that Ellis is totally engaging. She exhibits a true sense of joy when she sings, which you can see in her intense smile and can hear in her voice and in her laughter. Ellis makes her audience feel as lucky as I was to sit a few feet in front of her and listen to her sing."

"After eight albums and 15 years of touring mostly by herself, Minneapolis’ coffeehouse-folk stalwart Ellis got some pretty sizable help with her elegant new record, “The Guest House.” The personal and relentlessly hopeful collection — named after a Rumi poem and inspired by death, motherhood and (legal!) marriage — includes string arrangements by big-dog composer Rob Mathes, who has co-helmed Sting’s orchestral albums. She recorded it with local producer Kevin Bowe and New Jersey’s Ben Wisch (Marc Cohn). Her release party will include piano accompaniment by Radoslav Lorković, whom she met when they were guests on “A Prairie Home Companion,” plus Vicky Emerson, Desdamona, and more." (8 p.m. Sat., Cedar Cultural Center, all ages, $15-$20.) - Chris Riemenschneider
From The Local Current Blog:
"Ellis’s Facebook page describes her as “very responsive to messages.” Of course she is, because Ellis Delaney is basically the nicest person on Earth, and you can hear that in her music. Her aptly-titled new album, The Guest House, is sure to be a cozy place to curl up, full of the solid songwriting and precise but warm arrangements that have marked the Minneapolis-via-Texas musician’s entire career. Ellis will be among friends — including Radoslav Lorković, Vicky Emerson, and Desdamona — on Saturday night at the Cedar for an album-release show"(Jay Gabler).
